Weekly wrap – Commencing Thursday 14 May 2020

Greetings:

Kampot appear to have got the drop on Phnom Penh and started up live music this weekend.  The Kampot Playboys head the charge at Banyan Tree on Friday 15 from 10 pm; then Green House present Hypnotic Fist Technique and the Fish Stix on Sunday afternoon from noon.  Also out of town, The Harbour in Siem Reap offers a live streamed performance by David Murphy on Saturday 16 at 7 pm, and they have also recommenced their regular Wednesday night open mic.

Back in Phnom Penh, Farm to Table continue their virtual Acoustic Friday series with a Facebook Live performance from Lisa Concepcion from 6.30 pm.   Tune in from your living room.

Mimi & the Merrymakers – music for the young and the young at heart – continue live streaming shows every Wednesday at 5 pm.  They also have a special show planned for the afternoon of Sunday 17 at Farm to Table that will be live streamed, with a small live audience – bookings essential.

Sssessionsss at Botanico, brought to you by Botanico in collaboration with Leng Pleng, pops up on Saturday evenings:  keep an eye open here.  A late show send up format, a lighthearted response to these times, with music and special guests.  Botanico has remained open throughout the slowdown, and has been assisting gigless musicians with their two-for-one gift certificate programme – if you buy a $20 certificate for a hungry musician you get one free for yourself.

And a happy third birthday to Kampot Radio this week.  Congratulations to the whole team.

Steve Porte Photo of the Week

Weigh-in at Boeung Trabek.       Steve has been getting about town documenting Phnom Penh in the time of covid-19.

Hang in there, it won’t be long now – live music will be back across Phnom Penh soon.

Stay safe out there, and see you not so much around the traps.
