Weekly wrap – commencing Thursday 24 December 2020

Seasons Greetings:

Christmas cheer is logically the theme for this weekend, no anti-Christmas events appear to have been set up this year.  Notably tonight, for Christmas Eve, Miss Sarawan is at Urban Beer House, the jam is back at Ege Bar, Green Pepper have an Intan & Metta special, and the Extraordinary Chambers are at Oscar’s on the Corner.

Also of note this weekend is Beach Party Vol 1 on Saturday at the Greenhouse in Kampot featuring The Schkoots and TheBlueSouls, Dean Wolf Bailey & Friends at Laundry Bar in Siem Reap, Rocket Science at YK Art House, and the long-awaited debut of the first world problems at Oscar’s on the Corner.

Last chance to vote in the annual Kampot Radio Top 100 Songs Of All Time event, up until midnight tonight.  Check it out on their Facebook page.  Some fierce fighting for the top spots, folks.  Then listen in for the countdown on 31 December from noon.

Recently released by Pearl of Asia Records and Lion Productions USA, in conjuction with the Sinn Sisamouth family, is Groove Club 4: Sinn Sisamouth.  A very limited run vinyl LP, but there are a few copies down at SpaceFourZero.  They also have in stock the Angkor Pop compilation in hot pink and Astronomy Class’ Mekong Delta Sunrise in red.

Remember Leng Pleng wants your contributions: your live music highlights for 2020 – a thinner year than last year to be sure, but still, not entirely quiet – that will be compiled together for our 31 December edition.  Please send a paragraph or two to lengplenggigs@gmail.com.

Leng Pleng is experiencing some issues with its email: please use lengplenggigs@gmail.com for contact for the time being.

2020, or The Year Phnom Penh Became the Live Music Capital of the World

This year started as the preceding few did: Phnom Penh had increasingly been on the itinerary of bands passing through South East Asia, there were new venues and musical projects growing, and, despite a trend of lower high seasons, no reason to expect any radical change.  How wrong we were.
