Weekly wrap – Thursday 26 August 2021

Greetings:

Tonight Thursday 26 jazz is back at The Attic with Intan & Friends, from 7.30 pm.  This week sees the long awaited return of Stan Paleco on guitar.

Friday 27 sees the launch of a new room at Backyard Café on the corner of Sts 63 & 278, with the special bonus of the Cuban sounds of Kairon & Liz.  Also featuring a free drink from Bulldog Gin, canapes and the work of local artists – kicks off at 6 pm.

If you’re staying in, Professor Kinski’s show on RadioOun.com at 6 pm this Friday has the theme Cambodian Dub.

On Saturday 28 from 6.30 pm at the Himawari, locally-based Singaporeans celebrate their national day – two weeks late but these are not normal times – with an appearance by the Boxchords.  Singaporeans need to RSVP – and will get free drinks and finger food. Other guests do not need to RSVP but will have to pay for their own food and drinks.  More info here.

Also on Saturday night, from 6.30 pm, live music returns to Cloud with a performance by Khmer musician Same Piano.

On Sunday afternoon at 1 pm, Botanico host Grass Snake Trio with a barbecue – probably your last chance to see the latest Grass Snakee Sidewalk Cellist Clara Shandler play before she leaves.  Limited seating, book via Facebook Messenger.

Returning to your screen device of choice on Monday 30 are Phnom Penh children’s entertainers Mimi & the Merrymakers – a special edition livestreaming from 5 pm.

In the absence of big shows, produce and release!  Initial Dynamo drop their new single, Shadow Cyclone, on Saturday 28.  Initial G says: “This one is your anthem if you love boombap rap and anime! This single will be the first in a series of monthly singles we will release as part of an album recorded before Mike Dynamo moved from Cambodia! He might not be here anymore but we still got mad love for him and we hope you enjoy this as a culmination of nearly half a decade of entertainment that we provided since we first started working together! Lovingly and meticulously produced by the commander in chief himself – CIC man with dope cuts by Phnom Penh legend DJ Niko Yu!”  Keep your eyes on cyberspace.
