Cesar needs your help

Cesar Toni, a beloved member of the musicians community in Cambodia, is seriously ill.  Since Sunday, he has been hospitalized in Siem Reap Provincial Hospital for Stage 5 kidney failure and lung inflammation and other complications. He is now at Calmette in Phnom Penh where he will receive better, and urgent treatment, including dialysis. We in the musicians community are doing all we can to help Cesar tide through this emergency, and we would be extremely grateful for any donation. You can scan the ABA QR code in the poster attached. No amount is too small. The account you are donating to belongs to Cesar’s long-time partner Gloria.

For further details, please contact Paul Mackie.   On behalf of Cesar and Gloria, we thank you for your help.

The LengPleng Interview

Weaponised silliness – the life and times of Brooke Palmer

Brooke Palmer has been playing around in Phnom Penh for some years now, and LengPleng felt it was time to have a sit down to find out some of her back story – the ukulele, the singing, the looping and everything else.

LP:  I was reading your Passing Chords mini-profile in preparation for this, and there I found the phrase that I recalled:  this little instrument changed my life.

BP:  Yes.  It still is!  I started my affair with the ukulele when I was living in China.  It was one of those planet alignment things.  They were becoming really trendy at the time, and there was an article a local magazine called That’s Shanghai talking about a street where there were lots of instrument shops – the photo they picked was a wall of ukuleles.  I thought maybe I should get one of those.
