Greetings:

Thursday night gets underway in Phnom Penh with a farewell gig for The Joy Boys at The Deck, Khalil J at The Box Office and Green Leaf Motif at Penh 278The Broken Cymbal are at Botanico, touring duo Loopy Reggae are at Hideout and visiting guitarist Marco Antonio Alonso is at Excelsior.  Going late at Oscar’s on the Corner are The Extraordinary Chambers.  In Siem Reap, find Angkor Classique at Villa D and The Exile at Pasta La Vista.

On Friday there is a special Japanese drum performance at Cambodian Japanese Cooperation Centre that will also feature dancing.  Then The Visa Runners play Craft, Kiss Bang Bong are at The Attic and the hard working Green Leaf Motif are at The Tin Hat.  Later on find Hypermax at Perch, Alisha at Cloud and Alli G & TheQuilas at Oscar’s on the Corner.  In Kampot, Scott Bywater is at The Green Room and in Siem Reap, Erhan is at Pasta La Vista and Jam-Cha play Republic Bistro.

On Saturday the big event is the Kampot Craft Beer Festival with Joe & the Jumping Jacks and Spiked Gravy at Monkey Republic; elsewhere in the south Scott Bywater is at The Bay and Nico Thoma is at Kep Natural.  In Phnom Penh, Chor Yee & Lim are at Seekers Spirits, Kiss Bang Bong is at Hemisphere  and Green Leaf Motif pop up yet again at Sundance.  Further afield, Intan, Gerard & Khalil are at Au Marche, Alli G is at MusiZone and Austin brings in a band at Cloud.  In party mode, find Sabor Caliente with La Union at Abode and Red Red Robin at Oscar’s on the Corner.  And it’s a busy night in Siem Reap, with Electric Soup at Arin’s, Combojah at Laundry and Mikaela at Republic Bistro.

Come Sunday, Radio Oun has a live radio concert at The Pond in Kampot, featuring Scott Bywater, Ant Colloff and more, while in Phnom Penh there’s plenty of acoustic music with Green Leaf Motif  at The Vine, Sunday Sundowners open mic with guest host Liam Jones at Tacos Kokopelli and Stu Cottom at Bar Oz.  For those staying up late, find The Extraordinary Chambers at Oscar’s on the Corner.



Passing Chords – a few things you may not know about

 

Aya Uruta Yamanouchi.  A former long-time resident of Siem Reap, Aya is back in town for a short visit with her husband and threee year old daughter.  You may recall her from such bands as Cambojam, MILO and the Siem Reap Jazz Quartet.  Her current outfit Combojah will play at Laundry in Siem Reap on Saturday night.

A Japanese children’s book, Gonkitsune.

Japanese, English, Khmer and a very little French.

Your primary instrument, and when you started playing it:
Piano, I started at 4 years old.

Something people might be surprised to know about you:
I lived in Siem Reap for 10 years, and even toured throughout Cambodia.

You have a time machine and a magic ticket to one gig or festival in the past. What do you choose?
Bob Marley in Tokyo in 1979.

A question from the last participant: what is something that you think you will do a lot of while in Cambodia?
Play live, do some recording, and get good vibes from the Khmer people.
