The wonderful Kampot Playboys are in Phnom Penh this weekend for a handful of shows – on Thursday as part of the Mekong in Motion boat cruise with Miss Sarawan (tickets still available), Friday at Hometown Hangout  and on Saturday at Oscar’s on the Corner.

Also on Thursday in Phnom Penh Bandi Jan van Kooij will be doing a solo saxophone performance at the closing night party for the Channthy Fever exhibition of photographs of the late Cambodian singer Kak Channthy at Sra’Art, while Summer Lee Carlson & Mute Speaker are at Kando and later on The Extraordinary Chambers are at Oscar’s on the Corner.  In Kampot, George Town is at The Bay.

Friday night in Phnom Penh find gypsy jazz with Anton Petrovsky at Craft, Mr Zee at The Tin Hat, Phil O’Flaherty at Botanico and Summer Lee Carlson & Mute Speaker at The Box OfficeShake 79 are at Bat Muk Yu, Checkered Past are at Noisy Chili and Blues on the Cob (featuring Bona) are at Little Susie.  Late and loud, AlliG & TheQuilas are at Oscar’s on the Corner.  In Battambang, Kodi Hudson is at The Balcony.

On Saturday in Phnom Penh, Diamonds in the Sky are at The Deck, Antonio El Chico & Monique are at Botanico, Rags to Rainbows are at Vinoteca, Loopy Reggae are at Craft and Arome Khmer are at Bat Muk Yu. On the coast, Melody & Joe at The Wave: Kep West and Playing Mantis are at The Bay in Kampot, while in Siem Reap Joshua Chiang is hosting an open mic at Ubuntu.

On Sunday in Phnom Penh D&Y are at The Tin Hat, Adam Marsland is at Villa Grange, Muxu are at The Vine and the Sunday Sundowners open mic is hosted by Scott Bywater at Tacos Kokopelli.  Later on, the Electric Muxu Orchestra are at Oscar’s on the Corner.  In Kep, Melody & Joe are at The Wave: Kep West.

Kim Beamish completes the third of a three-part series on the Siem Reap leg of Slam Fest 2025 : Opposition Party (Singapore), Eleanor (Japan) and Seventh Son (Japan).

I wake up to the dull throb of fresh ink—the thick black lines now etched into the inside of my right ankle, a permanent souvenir courtesy of 7th  Street Tattoo. The tattooist, a man more ink than skin, worked with the precision of a surgeon, and although my hangover has finally dulled, it is now to be replaced by a new, rhythmic pain—a fitting trade-off for another night of sonic warfare at Slam City III 2025.
