On Sunday in Phnom Penh, Scott Bywater is at Villa Grange, Miss Sarawan is at The Vine, Sunday Sundowners Tacos Kokopelli open mic is hosted by Michael McCann, and later Cambodia Country Band are at Oscar’s on the Corner.

Established this month is Songwriters Session (Phnom Penh chapter) – join the Facebook group here – with the first gathering to be held at Java Tuol Tom Pong on Sunday 27.    “This will be an ongoing, monthly meeting to share music we’re working on, share feedback, have an ongoing proactive group for motivation to finish songs, work on prompts for extra creativity, get inspiration, collaborate & more.  Feel free to message Summer Lee Carlson, Brooke Palmer or Cameron McCracken Smith if you have questions.”

Will to beauty – the Monaco Boys Choir visits Cambodia

Perhaps a series of concerts by the Monaco Boys Choir is one of the more unlikely tours coming through Vietnam and Cambodia this month, but it’s part of a greater mission to expand a particular section of the cultural sector in this part of the world.  LengPleng sat down rather early one Saturday to chat to the organiser of the tour, Father Will Conquer, to discuss the beauty and inspiration of music, and the challenges of developing choirs in Southeast Asia.

“If music be the food of love play on, as Shakespeare would say,” says Father Will.  “It’s beautiful in itself.  So the first priority is to offer a beautiful programme.
