Thursday in Phnom Penh as usual gets underway with jams – jazz with Dr George at Tape Deck and full big-stage rock with the Echo Terminal jam session at Factory Phnom Penh.  Also try out Adam Marsland’s 500 title song-a-rama at Little Susie, visitor Brett Perkins (US) at The Phoenix Bar (formerly The Silk Route), Rom Romvong Duo at Sabada and Miss Sarawan at Rust.  Later on, The Extraordinary Chambers are at Oscar’s on the Corner.  In Siem Reap Kiko is at The Pizza Garden.

A busy Friday night in Phnom Penh kicks off with Rags to Rainbows at Khmer Funk Sky Bar, Greg Beshers at Botanico, Scott Bywater at The Vine, Punch Drunk at The Tin Hat and Alli G at End of the Road.  Mirasol and James Parm team up for Ethereal Journey at Hunt, while Phil Javelle is at Riva.  The long-running metal act Nightmare A.D. is at Distortion Dive Bar, while Lisa Concepcion is at The Black Sheep, Adam Marsland is at The Kitchen, new act Beer Supply are at Stories by Little Susie, Jay is at The Big Easy and Rom Romvong are at Meta House.  Later and louder, Montra are at Oscar’s on the Corner.  In Siem Reap JamCha are at The Pizza Garden.

On Saturday night in Phnom Penh Adam Marsland is on early at End of the Road, Tape Deck host the return of The Originals Sessions with Tom Dallan, Vince Solomons and David Zdriluk, while Miss Sarawan are at Motodop.  Jazz trio Take 3 (Caro, Gaby & Raph) are at Botanico, Joe & the Jumping Jacks are at Bar Oz, and the dance party that is Crash Boom Bang are at Oscar’s on the Corner.  In Siem Reap, Dos Sifones are at Mex’d Up and Pepe & Melissa are at The Pizza Garden.

Come Sunday, Wayfarer State and Skip Cormack are at Motodop, Scott Bywater hosts a Van Morrison’s birthday special Sunday Sundowners open mic at Tacos Kokopelli, while Joe Wrigley is at Bar Oz and Greg Beshers is at Hunt; later it’s Shaken Spirit at Oscar’s on the Corner.  And on Monday another Van Morrison special for the Songwriter Circle at Little Susie.

Department of Venue Notes

Now open with plans to get more jazz on the menu is EMMY Jazz Wine Bar on St 172 – more news on their schedule as it comes to hand.  Also note in the close neighbourhood the post-five revival of what was formerly The Silk Route, now Phoenix Bar; this weekend featuring Brett Perkins on Thursday, Kevin Sysyn on Friday and Stu Cottom on Saturday.  Further afield, Motodop have launched Wine Wednesdays which will this coming week feature Chaktomuk Blues Band.

Coming soon is the introductory session for the planned Phnom Penh community concert band, to be held at Tape Deck on September 5.  More information here.     “If you play, have ever played or would like to play, this could be for you. The concept is a band for players of all ages and abilities. Join the group and we can help you to refresh your old skills or achieve the goal of playing with an ensemble.”
