Passing Chords – a few things you may not know about

Moisty Atsushi, the cat-suit wearing traveling Japanese ska performer based in New Zealand.  “It’s been a long time since I played in Phnom Penh. I have four gigs back to back this weekend. Before the COVID lockdown, I played at Tacos Kokopelli and Cloud and I’m so excited to back there again.  I feel very lucky to be playing new venues: Sam’s and Little Susie. I’m looking forward to it – I think Phnom Penh is one of coolest and most underrated places for traveling musicians to visit.”

Do you have a pet musical hate?
People just talk. No action taken.

A private musical indulgence:
After gig Burger King feast.

The year you first came to Cambodia
2015, when I was traveling from the UK to Singapore.

An early music memory
In my kindy it was compulsory to learn melodica. I was not good at it (still). My mum told me to play it with one finger.

The last thing you had to eat
Vietnamese grilled beef.

A country you want to visit
I want to visit many places! But I think I want to visit Mexico to play one day.

A book or movie you keep going back to
Rockers. It’s a classic reggae movie in the 70s.

What languages do you have?
English and a little Japanese.

Your primary instrument, and when you started playing it:
I started to play guitar when I was 15 or 16.

Something people might be surprised to know about you:
I got married this year.

You have a time machine and a magic ticket to one gig or festival in the past. What do you choose?
Not quite a gig or festival – I want go back in time 1964 or 1965 to visit Studio One, Kingston, Jamaica. I would love to hang out with the musicians in the studio and watch how they recorded at that time.

A question from the last participant: is there anything you regret not pursuing musically?
There were some opportunities to work with some Jamaican legends. I just did not have skills, time and money.
