Weekend highlights ***for full gig listings jump to the bottom***

Greetings:

STOP PRESS:  On Wednesday 30 Bophana Center hosts the launch of the Khmer language version of The Golden Voice, a graphic novel telling the story of legendary Golden Era singer Ros Serey Sothea.  The night will include an exhibition of song lyrics, vinyl records, film screenings, a panel discussion and live performance by Sin Setsochhata.

In spite of – or because of? – the World Cup, there’s an explosion of live music around the kingdom as we head towards December and the silly/high season.  Familiar faces continue to return to familiar stages – expect more in the weeks to come.

Starting on Friday, stretching through every night to the end of next weekend, Oktoberfest Cambodia at Factory Phnom Penh promises an extraordinary range of music, from German oompah to Cambodian rock’n’roll to country and western to Cuban and beyond.  DJs follow every night.   Tickets $7 for Friday and Saturday, free entry Sunday to Thursday.

On a smaller scale, bossa nova outfit Blue Wave are doing a tour of Siem Reap, starting Thursday at Fellini, continuing at Navutu Dreams Resort on Saturday and finishing at New Leaf on Sunday afternoon.

Thursday night in Phnom Penh find the Latin sounds of Poca de Feo & Nestor at Botanico, new combo Sister Srey at Sora Skybar, and Temple at Oscar’s on the Corner.  In Siem Reap, Kodi Hudson & Alexey Ilin are at Villa D , Andy Luna is at Pasta La Vista, and for something louder, heavy metal acts Doch Chkae and As The Heart Betrays will be at Atlantis.  In Kampot, Graham Cain plays Golden Time.

On Friday night in Phnom Penh, there’s jazz from Boho Project at Le Bar at Sofitel, the choice of sweet sounds from The Broken Cymbal at Botanico@Odom Garden and Intan Andriana & Gabi Courroux at Craft. Regulars Khmer Magic Music Bus are at Bouchon Wine Bar and Elnarra & Phil are at Mayazon, while Alisha & Damani are at Cloud, and Miserable Man makes up for his washed out show last week at Back Street Bar.  In Tuol Tom Pong, Indian fusion band PRERNA join with Alli G at Sam’s, and Sunset Boulevard host Original Artist Showcase III with songwriters Damani, Cove, Gaby and Joshua.  The best band in the land, Kampot Playboys, are at Oscar’s on the Corner.  In Siem Reap, Jam-Cha are joined by Scapegoat Candy at Pomme, Paul Mackie is at Antonio’s Villa Hotel and Andy Luna is at AMBAR.

On Saturday afternoon in Phnom Penh, Intan Andriana & Friends are playing TK Central while The Blue Souls help Seekers Spirits celebrate their fourth anniversary.  Later on Alisha is at Craft, Havana Nice are at Back Street Bar and Ariane Parkes & Scott Bywater do their two songwriters show at Sunset BoulevardKampot Playboys are at Sam’s and Srey Ka & K’n’E go late at Oscar’s on the Corner.  In Siem Reap Mr Zee is at Villa D and in the south, Nico Thomas is at Kep Natural.

And don’t forget: every night at 7 pm Oktoberfest Cambodia at Factory Phnom Penh presents a selection of the best acts in the country.
