Starting the holiday this weekend on Thursday, in Phnom Penh find Stu Cottom at Villa Grange, Nestor at Craft and Amok Soul at Lantern, while El Narra is at Rumba Latina and Mayari Duo at Samai Rum Distillery.  Silver & Taylor are at Hub Street Cocktails and The Extraordinary Chambers go late at Oscar’s on the Corner. 

On Friday night it’s pretty sparse – check out the farewell to Big D Walker at Oscar’s on the Corner – in Siem Reap find Salazar Quartet at Endora and Andy Luna at Temple Food & Beverage.  On the coast The Broken Cymbal begin a four day residency at Prince Beach Club in Sihanoukville. 

On Saturday in Phnom Penh, The Extraordinary Chambers are at Oscar’s on the Corner, while in Siem Reap Gerard Evans is at Harry’s & The Welsh Consulate and Rod Tolentino is at Pasta La Vista.

Looking forward to Sunday in Phnom Penh, Ace & Phil are at Villa Grange , the Sunday Sundowners open mic is on at Tacos Kokopelli, Dave Zdriluk is replacing a vacationing Stu Cottom at Bar Oz and Phil Javelle is at Excelsior.  Joe & the Jumping Jacks go late at Oscar’s on the Corner.

A place to come back to – Derrick Big D Walker

It is a truism that Cambodia is a place where the well-travelled can find a place to stop a while.  This is very much the case with Derrick Big D Walker, a wanderer based in Stockholm, Sweden.  Sixteen months ago LengPleng first spoke to him for Passing Chords, when he’d been in Phnom Penh for only three weeks, and now as he prepares to leave he sat down for a full-length exit interview on the balcony at Oscar’s on the Corner.

You’ve played in many places around the world, what brought you to Cambodia?  “Yeah, I’ve played in the most obscure places blues musicians can play.  The Arctic Circle, Ukraine, China, Cambodia.  My family thinks I’m insane.  Cambodia?  they ask.”
