Passing Chords … a few things you might not know about

Silver & Taylor are Phnom Penh’s premiere lounge rock duo. They honed their act in the late night Parisian underground lounges, and now are bringing their dynamic blend of lounge, rock and pop to Hub Street Cocktails every Thursday night in October, from 9 pm to 10 pm. Featuring Jerry Silver on piano and vocals & Joey Taylor on vocals and schmaltz, you haven’t seen them until you’ve seen them.  And once you’ve seen them, you can’t unsee them. An experience truly to behold.

Do you have a pet musical hate?
Silver:  Liberace.  He deliberately pretended that he never copied my style but I was told by a very trustworthy fortune teller that he traveled in the future to see my shows.
Taylor: I used to have a kitten that had a terrible cough. We named her Lil Weezy. Eventually we gave her away. Also, band names listed in alphabetical order. Just because someone’s surname starts with a letter before yours, they get top billing??!!??

A private musical indulgence:
Silver:  Zu Der Ponderosa Reiten Wir by Heino, THE German male sex symbol of the 1970s. His deep sensual voice and his unequaled elegance definitely were a true inspiration to me.
Taylor: Beans = the musical fruit.

The year you first came to Cambodia:
Silver:  2004, when it was both wild and glamorous.  I miss the times when people were shooting blanks at the sky with rusted AK-47s while I rode my Daelim on Monivong Blvd full speed, and those naked ladies tearing my shirt while I sang When Tomorrow Never Comes at Uncle Moe’s.
Taylor: 1571 – in a past life.

An early music memory:
Silver:  1971, when I first laid my fingers on a piano in an old music shop on Nevsky Prospekt, at the age of four.  I composed my first dodecaphonic piece on the spot and the owner yelled at me – from the very beginning I knew I would always be greatly misunderstood.
Taylor: O Canada .

The last thing you had to eat:
Silver:  Albino shrooms with kumis, served in a fragment of a yurt that belonged to Namjilyn Norovbanzad and topped with Shagzy’s Scorpion Pumpkin sauce.
Taylor: Vegan foie gras.

A country you want to visit:
Silver:  Themyscira, the Land of the Amazons.
Taylor: Narnia.

A book or movie you keep going back to:
Silver:  Forest Of Insanity, a blockbuster from 2003 starring the incredibly talented Joey Taylor.
Taylor: Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! & Viva Las Vegas.

What languages do you have?
Silver:  My fans would say I definitely master body language, and I am not too bad at French, I learned it to improve my flirting technique.
Taylor: I can say thank you in Albanian.

Your primary instrument, and when you started playing it:
Silver:  A squeaky nipple that my nanny brought from Obscura Oddities when I turned six months old, said to have belonged to Donald J Trump.
Taylor: Voice, I started right after birth.

Something people might be surprised to know about you:
Silver:  I am Roy Horn’s hidden son.
Taylor: I have a Master’s in Tarot & I’m allergic to cats.

You have a time machine and a magic ticket to one gig or festival in the past. What do you choose?
Silver:  The Village People live @ The Palace in Paris, France, 1978.
Taylor: The taping of Perry Como’s TV special Christmas in California or Barry Manilow in Vegas.

A question from the last participant: chicken wings – flats or drumsticks?
Silver:  I get my kicks out of sticks.
Taylor: If the drumstick has some girth, I prefer those. But i like sucking on the bones of the flats.
