On Friday in Phnom Penh Brett Perkins is back-to-back at The Deck and later Little Susie, Mirasol & Phil are at Shangri-La, Miss Sarawan are at Riverview (not Bat Muk Yu as mistakenly advertised) and Alli G follows Johnny & the Scallywags at The Tin HatSkeptical Chemistry are at Cloud, Frankie Teardrop Dead are at Noisy Chili and Shake 79 are at Hometown HangoutPoca de Feo & the Sticky Tentacles pull double duty early at Botanico and late at Oscar’s on the Corner, while Stu Cottom is at The Silk Route.

On Saturday in Phnom Penh Trio Time (Jeffro, Alex and Pervez) commence a new residency at Villa Grange, while Little Susie celebrate their fifth anniversary party with Kevin Sysyn followed by Phil JavelleThe Originals Acoustic Showcase at The Deck features Zakk Zoot, Pablo & Chema, and Phil, while Cambodia Soundbase are at Botanico, Dan Reidy is at The Wild Rover and The Stuffs are at Can CanAntonio Elchico is at Tropico, Stu Cottom is at Boran Bar and Poca de Feo & the Sticky Tentacles are at DuplexOscar’s on the Corner offers Brett Perkins early and Cambodia Country Band going late.  In Kampot, Chris Garcia is at Old Market Skybar.

On Sunday in Phnom Penh Vince Solomons is at The Vine, the Sunday Sundowners open mic is at Tacos Kokopelli, and Stu Cottom is at Bar Oz.  Later and louder, Shaken Spirit are at Oscar’s on the Corner.  In Siem Reap, Joshua Chiang & the Dropping Shoes are at New Leaf.

Department of New Releases and Festivals and Such

Bandleader Jesse Zenchuck may be gone but Smack the Unicorn have released a self-titled album recorded in Phnom Penh.  Check it out here at Bandcamp.

Also newly released is Daisy’s Daytime Radio, a project headed by Gary Custance, which LengPleng teased back in 2023.    You can listen here on YouTube.

Tickets are on sale for a big show at Halloween, Carnival Youth (Latvia) plus Japan Guitar Shop at B-BOX.  Advance tickets ($18) at The Deck, The Vine, and Wonderpass.

Preliminary details have been released for the forthcoming second Dave Fest to be held during Bon Om Touk (Water Festival), 4 – 7 November, at M’Pai Bai Bay, Koh Rong Somleoun.   Acts include Knell, Soselo Summer, Jazz Sauce, Vince Solomons, Johatsu, Wind-Up Mice, Drunk on Champagne, Bullshit Boy, Nightmare A.D..

Dates have been announced for Brett Perkins’ Siem Reap Songwriters Festival, 16 – 23 November, to be followed by the Phnom Penh Songwriters Festival (23 – 30 November).

The Brass on the Block ensemble, with their new video for their cover of Jeas Cyclo, as promoted in these pages, have been written up in the Phnom Penh Post.
