The Siem Reap act Son Sabor Latin Trio are on tour, they started at Bouchon last night, continue tonight at Trattoria Bello, 7 pm (only until 8 pm), then head to Kampot for Karma Traders on Friday; they’ll be back to Phnom Penh for Duplex on Saturday.
Locally to Phnom Penh, bursting onto the scene are Dairon’s new Cuban band Havana Nice, with new residencies at Sora Sky Bar at Rosewood on Thursdays and Elephant Bar at Raffles Le Royale on Fridays. They’ll also be at Azure on Friday 12.
Otherwise tonight, Thursday, Roz & zargz join Blues Routes at Botanico, 7 pm, Gareth Bawden continues his Thursday residency at Penh 278, 7 pm, Mirasol & Stan are at The Attic at the Hyatt from 7.30 pm, there’s the regular jam session at Bosporus from 8 pm, and as ever The Extraordinary Chambers at Oscar’s on the Corner from 10 pm.
On Friday Khmer Magic Music Bus return to Bouchon, 7 pm, Roz & Pavel Ramirez are at The Box Office, 7.30 pm, the surprise reappearance of The Uncomfortably White Brothers opening for K’n’E at Oscar’s on the Corner, 10 pm.
Come Saturday, Swing Time is at Central Café, 8 pm, and Joe & the Jumping Jacks are at Oscar’s on the Corner, 10 pm.
To complete the weekend, the new Sunday Showcase, a new open mic, begins at Arone’ Silverman’s new joint Sunset Boulevard, from 5 pm, Roz & zargz are at Bar Oz,while K’n’E are taking it late at Oscar’s on the Corner.
Into the week, Cambodia Country Band have resumed their Monday night residency at Oscar’s on the Corner, as have First World Problems on Wednesday. In Kampot, Karma Traders’ open mic has reopened on Tuesdays.
A new release on Bandcamp this very day – Ernie Buck, shortly (well, tomorrow) to reappear on Phnom Penh stages – offers Brakelights by The Cham Ticks at https://erniebuck.bandcamp.com/track/brakelights. It’s the lead single from their debut album, Self Portrait with Moustache, coming soon.
Coming later this month, the 18th Phnom Penh International Music Festival, Thursday 25 to Saturday 27, on the theme of Romanticism leading to Modernism. Ticket sales open 15 November.
