In Phnom Penh on Saturday, One Park Residence hosts Touch the Nature , a unique soul healing music and candling outdoor performance” with international performers ZheLai, Zhipeng Chen and Juan Siblesz.   Then you can find Wrigley & Pearl at Botanico, PRERNA at Cloud and DanDan at Sundance.  Returning to Phnom Penh stages is Smokin’ Kenny Smith, joining forces with Big D Walker & The Fender Benders at Oscar’s on the Corner.  In the south, Billy Page is at Kep Natural and Kampot Playboys play KAPAL in Kampot.  In Siem Reap, Jam-Cha help Chema celebrate his birthday at Pomme, while Mikaela is at Pasta La Vista and The Sock Essentials are at Laundry.

On Sunday in Phnom Penh, Skin and String at Back Street Bar [see our feature interview with songwriter Lewis McTighe] while Joe & The Jumping Jacks are at Oscar’s on the Corner.  Down on the water, Phil Javelle presents Songs in the Key of Sea at Kep Natural, while in Siem Reap The Sock Essentials are at New Leaf and Leo, Simon & Giuliano Jazz Trio are at Villa D.



Department of Punk’s Not Dead It Just Smells Funny

Saturday 4 February marks The Return of Stewwy Ramone (featuring Stiff Little Punks), with a band meeting/press conference at 2.30 pm at White River Guesthouse on St 172.  “Stewwy will be there in person conducting interviews and signing autographs, his first public media conference since leaving these shoes after emergency medical treatment three years a go.  A once in a lifetime opportunity to catch up and take selfies with this legendary singer who saw tenures with with The Lazy Drunks, Oasis tribute band Mad Fer It, Blitzkrieg Ramones and Stiff Little Punks.  VIP facilities/press handouts will be available for all distinguished guests.”

Destination change: Lewis McTighe

From more or less a standing start, singer-songwriter Lewis McTighe (also known phonetically as Lewis McTie) has found himself in a handful of significant Phnom Penh acts in a relatively short time.  His journey from Little Thieves to Japan Guitar Shop and now somewhat sideways into Skin and String is about to revive, after a bit of time off to return to study.  Ahead of a Back Street Bar show this Sunday evening he sat down with LengPleng to talk about bands, writing, and the alchemy of it all.

Little Thieves was something of a COVID phenomenon, their first shows coming in the middle of 2020, and The Last Heist, their farewell show, was in February 2022.  “The more and more I reflect on the band the more special I realise it was,” says Lewis.  “From dabbling with other projects and playing with other people, I realised, oh my God, the four of us, it was really unique.”
