Weather permitting, Friday in Phnom Penh starts with Gareth Bawden at Botanico@Odom Garden, while Yor Chee is in charge of the jazz at Le Vin, Geography of the Moon are at Craft and The Incredibillys are at The Box Office. Graham Cain plays La Petanque, and later on K’n’E are at Oscar’s on the Corner. In Kampot The Busking Kings can be found at Golden Time, while in Siem Reap Diego Dimarques is at Fellini, Paul Mackie is at Pasta La Vista and Jam-Cha are at AMBAR.
On Saturday, Austin returns to Craft, Woody Dares continues his September residency at Lantern, Cecile Dahome & Phil Javelle are at Bouchon Wine Bar, while Graham Cain is at Sundance and Efren is at Beer O’Clock. Later find Havana Nice at Duplex, and Geography of the Moon followed by K’n’E at Oscar’s on the Corner. In Siem Reap there’s the choice of The White Band featuring Xange Heng at Arin’s and Jam-Cha at Star Bar.
On Sunday at The Vine, Graham Cain and Phil O’Flaherty are sharing the duties for the acoustic sessions, while for an open mic experience there’s the Sunday Sundowners at Tacos Kokopelli. Later there’s a two year anniversary party for Little Susie featuring the Big D Walker Trio. In Siem Reap New Leaf host the Euan Gray Quartet early, then Erhan is at Pasta La Vista later. In Kampot, The Busking Kings wind up their mini-tour with a show at First Bar.
Department of Something New
New to YouTube is Frisco Tony performing his song Down and Out In Chicago with his Gangstas of Love – Marc Biefnot and Ernie Buck – at Meta House back in June.
Fans of K’n’E, the house band at Oscar’s on the Corner, may be interested in this recording of a Khmer song performed by lead singer Tep Modyka that shows off her vocal abilities nicely. And if you can handle the cognitive dissonance, here’s Robin from the Oscar Tuesday night band Temple singing a country song, complete with cowboy hat.
In case you missed it, the Khmer Times reports that Cambodian hip-hoppers Vuthea and RuthKo, along with KlapYaHandz founder Sok Visal will be performing next month in Paris as part of an event to promote links between French and Asian music communities.
This week we farewelled singer-songwriter Ernie Buck (Monkish, Uncomfortably White Brothers, Cham Ticks, Gangstas of Love), who is off for more UK adventures, but he left us with his latest six-track Bandcamp release, There’s Enough Of You To Reach Past Pluto which dropped a couple of weeks ago. Check it out at his Bandcamp page. Or wait until next Friday when it will be Bandcamp Friday, when a greater percentage of the purchase price goes to the artist.
