Kampot Radio Top 100 Songs of All Time Poll – 2024 version

Very shortly the Kampot Radio Top 100 Songs of All Time Poll for 2024 will be open for voting.  This year there are some significant changes.  Firstly, you may notice that there has not been a public call for nominations – all songs in the poll have been chosen by the artists involved and station management.  Secondly, and most importantly, we are using the poll as a fundraiser for the station.   Each vote cast = a donation of US$1.  There is no limit on the number of votes cast by any individual.  We also want to share the love:   funds will be split on a 75/25 basis with the relevant artist: if a song of yours get 20 votes you get $5.  Sit tight and watch this space and all the other relevant spaces for more details.

Passing Chords – a few things you may not know about

Chris Rompre.  Former leader of Durian Funk Band, currently a  mouse in Wind Up Mice, who will play unplugged at The Deck on Saturday evening.

Do you have a pet musical hate/pet peeve?
Haha, what a first question! I try to be positive. I guess if I had one, it would be people whining about paying a couple of measly dollars to see an amazing live show.

A private musical indulgence:
Riding my bike late at night and listening to Peter Gabriel’s So.

The year you first came to Cambodia:
Oh god…2010!

An early music memory:
Hanging out with my parents’ hippie friends and listening to Frank Zappa’s Peaches en Regalia in a cloud of pot smoke

The last thing you had to eat:
Ema Datshi – a Bhutanese dish of hot chillies and local cheese. Silly how good it is!

A country you want to visit:
Well, I’m writing this in Bhutan, and it kinda feels like nothing will top this place!

A book or movie you keep going back to:
The Big Lebowski 100%

Your primary instrument, and when you started playing it:
I play bass guitar now, but will always feel most at ease jamming on a cajon or a djembe.

Something people might be surprised to know about you:
Hmmm…I guess that I’m an identical twin.

You have a time machine and a magic ticket to one gig or festival in the past. What do you choose?
Either the rooftop concert of The Beatles, or to be at Cafe Bohemia in 1955 in NYC for any one of the legendary nights Miles Davis, John Coltrane the rest of the quintet played there.

A question from the last participant:  Why do you still do it?
A better question might be: “Why did I ever stop?”. I recently came back to playing after nearly 10 years of not playing, and my god it feels good to be back!
