Greetings:

A quiet weekend ahead but we expect things to be firing on all cylinders by the end of the month, with many returning from summer vacations to hit the stages, and a couple of ten year anniversaries to celebrate – the Sunday Sundowners open mic at Tacos Kokopelli and Joe & the Jumping Jacks at Oscar’s on the Corner.

In the meantime, Friday night in Phnom Penh sees Green Leaf Motif at Craft, Danny Healy Gypsy 3 at Botanico and Mary & Takeshi at Cloud, then Montra at Oscar’s on the Corner going lateIn Siem Reap, there’s an open mic at The Welsh Consulate.

Saturday night in Phnom Penh La Union are at Little Susie, Kevin Sysyn is at Botanico, Antonio & the Playful Minds are at Sundance. 4Beats play as part of an Indonesian dance night at Koh Pich, and Stu Cottom opens for Joe & the Jumping Jacks at Bar Oz.  Later on Kampot Playboys are at Oscar’s on the Corner (R10,000 entry).  Chris Garcia is at The Bay in Kampot, and Rod & Chema are at Harry’s & The Welsh Consulate in Siem Reap.

Also of particular note this weekend is the return of Joe & the Jumping Jacks to Sunday nights at Oscar’s on the Corner.

Greg Beshers (The Extraordinary Chambers, Cambodia Country Band, Joe & the Jumping Jacks, Muxu) last week released a couple of songs written by himself and performed by his California band The Parker Brothers, now available on Bandcamp.    And tomorrow is Bandcamp Friday (artists receive all proceeds of sales).

Life of Brin

Last Friday night’s special event at Star Bar in Siem Reap brought together musicians from all over the country and, of course, all over the world, in celebration of the personage that is Brin Wood – the man out front with such bands as Hollywood Hot Dogs, The Conspiracy Theory and Those Handsome Devils.  Here’s some archival material from the LengPleng vaults – a look at his unlikely duo Boogie Noir in 2019 and his Passing Chords mini-profile from 2020.  And in the spirit of a picture is worth a thousand words, here’s a selection of photographs from the show.  Note: the gallery will be updated later.
