The LengPleng Feature

We were down an alley and we had a cat – Alley Cat Café / Tacos Kokopelli celebrate 18 years

Tacos Kokopelli, formerly Alley Cat Café, this Friday celebrates its 18th birthday, quite an achievement for a hole in the wall joint still in its original 2005 location.  LengPleng sat down with co-founder Mark Eastty to talk about origins and the contribution the venue has made to the music community in Phnom Penh.

It was a very different city then.
A totally different city.  When we started out there were no other businesses in the alley, so it was pitch black.  We had a little painted sign outside with one fluorescent bulb above it, so if you looked down the alley you could kind of see a little light, and if you were intrepid enough you might go down the alley and see what was there.  But the regulars knew where to find us.

Department of Here We Go Again: Radio Oun Top 100 Songs Of All Time Poll 2023

It’s December and it’s time for the annual Top 100 poll.  Each year we ask for your nominations, and later your votes, to settle the question once and for all.

This year LengPleng and RadioOun have joined together in inviting local and local-related acts to pre-nominate the songs of theirs they would like to get behind come voting time.  Already there’s a wide range of tunes from pop and country to folk and punk and rock’n’roll.  Get yourself over to the RadioOun Facebook page to see what’s been pre-nominated (be nice if you liked the page while you’re there).  For private citizens there are few restrictions – get in there and nominate the songs you’d like to see voted for.   Nominations close 15 December, after which the voting will commence.  Once the votes have been compiled the Top 100 will be counted down on RadioOun on the afternoon of 31 December 2023.  May the best act win!
