Greetings:

In 1980, as Cambodia was still taking baby steps out from under the Khmer Rouge period, on the other side of the world a band was being formed in the Netherlands.  Neuroot has been through many line-up changes, played everywhere from squats to festivals, and toured extensively through Europe and, latterly, in Asia.  They’re making their first visit to Cambodia this weekend for shows at Oscar’s on the Corner on Saturday and Atlantis on Sunday before heading for Indonesia.  If you like it loud (and historic) check out their website, Facebook, Bandcamp releases, and if you can read Dutch, their Wikipedia page.  See below for founder and bassist Marcel Stol’s Passing Chords contribution.

In Phnom Penh on Thursday the weekend kicks off with Scott Bywater poolside at Villa Grange, later on there’s the Cloud open mic, and Kevin Sysyn is at Excelsior.  Later The Extraordinary Chambers are at Oscar’s on the Corner.  In Kampot, Low Season Riders are at KAPAL and Chris Garcia hosts the jam session at Tiki Garden.

In Phnom Penh on Friday, Danny Healy Swing 3 are at Craft, there’s a Hank Williams 100th birthday tribute with the familiar faces of Hank 100 at Lantern, a taste of musical theatre & jazz with Mirasol Aguila, Collin Conradie & James Atkinson at The Tin Hat, and Antonio El Chico is at BotanicoIt gets loud at Cloud with Underground Madness featuring local metal acts Escapes, Road Crew, Reign in Slumber and After God, and Montra are at Oscar’s on the Corner.  In Siem Reap Jam-Cha join Andy Luna & Sokunthea at Duckmart.

Saturday night in Phnom Penh celebrate Fiesta del Mexico with Yusbel & Leandro at Craft, find Lisa Concepcion at Botanico, Justin Frew at Little Susie and Alli G Rockustic at Sundance, while Neuroot are joined by We Are Ewe and Alli G & TheQuilas at Oscar’s on the CornerKep Natural celebrate their new location with Nico Thoma and DJs, Chris Garcia is at The Bay in Kampot, while in Siem Reap Giuliano & Neena are at Harry’s & The Welsh Consulate, Rod Tolentino is at Ubuntu and The Blue Strangers play Laundry.

Looking ahead to Sunday, there’s Jive Buddies with guest Nestor Garcia Joa at Villa Grange, Greg Beshers followed by Silver & Taylor at The Vine, and Sunday Sundowners open mic at Tacos Kokopelli.  Going late are Joe & the Jumping Jacks at Oscar’s on the Corner.  In Siem Reap,  The Blue Strangers are at New Leaf and visitors Neuroot are at Atlantis.
